Rev. Malu Fairley-Collins, C.E. (they/them)

Rev. Malu Fairley-Collins is an ACPE Certified Educator and the Founder of Sojourners Institute of Spiritual Care, CPE Center. They began facilitating CPE units in 2013 and became an ACPE Certified Educator in 2018. Since then, they have built inaugural residency programs and led palliative care-focused units across multiple sites within Atrium Health and CaroMont Health. Malu previously served as Endorser for the Alliance of Baptists, where they enhanced the Endorsement Interview Process and developed the program's Endorsement Manual. More recently, Malu served as the program manager for Sankofa CPE Center, where they also facilitated numerous online units of CPE. Today, alongside founding Sojourners, Malu serves as a contract CPE faculty member at Atrium Health. Beyond these roles, Malu has also contributed to the field through volunteer leadership, including service on the ACPE Anti-Bias Task Force and as Vice President of the Alliance of Baptists Board.

Malu is an African American, queer Southerner in their mid-40s who identifies as queer in both orientation and gender identity. They are married to a trans man and are proud parents of three children. Malu lives with depression, ADHD, and two autoimmune conditions that bring chronic pain and fatigue. Their commitment to Sojourners CPE is not an academic exercise. It is rooted in who they are.
